I thought I’d have some fun and design my own pumpkin. I know, as usual, a holiday too late, but still this is a cute home decor item. I decided to dress it up by making it look a bit more rustic/vintage looking with lace and fabric flowers. I decided to get fancy in my stitches, too, but I have included a simpler pattern, as well, if you don’t want to tackle my original design.
Materials:
– 1 ½ skeins of worsted weight yarn in pumpkin color (A).
– small amount of worsted weight yarn in stem color (B).
– Size H (5.0mm) Crochet Hook
– Small and Large Yarn Needle
– Fiberfil
– Lace Ribbon (optional)
– Fabric Flowers (optional)
Size: 8 ” diameter x 6 ½” high including stem

Instructions:
- This pattern is written in American Standard Terms.
- Place a marker in the first stitch of every round to indicate the beginning and move the marker up at the start of each new round.
- All stitches are worked through both loops unless otherwise indicated.
- Instructions between ** and () are to be repeated as indicated.
- Instructions between [] are made in the same st.
- Numbers between () at the end of the round indicate the total amount of stitches in that round.
Lined Large Pumpkin:
The nice thing about this pattern is that it is fine as is without adding the lace. You get the wedges or lines of the pumpkin in this design without needing to add anything extra.
Worked in the round without joining. Stuff pumpkin as you go.

Simple Large Pumpkin:
With this pattern, the wedges will have to created after the pumpkin is created by wrapping the string around the pumpkin into 8 sections.

Firmly stuff pumpkin. F.O.Leave extra long tail to weave in remaining sts, pull closed, and to create wedges. Weave in ends.
With darning needle and long tail of yarn, sew the opening closed. To form the wedges, wrap the tail around the sides of the pumpkin, insert the needle through the bottom hole of the pumpkin and push the needle back through the top hole, pull slightly to tighten. Do this for each section. I made 8 sections. Tie off yarn and bury the tail.
For Both Pumpkins, add lace (optional):
With large darning needle and lace, tie a slip knot at the top of your pumpkin to start (tie knots at the top as the stem will cover them). Wrap the tail around the sides of the pumpkin, taking care to go over the lines of the wedges. Insert the needle through each side of the bottom circle of the pumpkin (see fig. B for illustration) and go up opposite side’s wedge line, pull slightly to tighten, knot at top to hold. Do not finish off. Do next section in the same manner and for each section. Tie off yarn and bury the tail.
Curved Stem:
Worked in the round without joining.
Tip: Keep sl sts loose.
With color A and H (5.0mm) hook,
Round 1: 8 sc in MC. (8)
Round 2: *2 sc* repeat around. (16)
Round 3: In blo, sc around. (16)
Round 4-6: In both loops, sc around. (16)
Round 7: sl st in next 6 sts, sc in next 10 sts. (16)
Round 8: sc in each st around. (16)
Round 9-14: Repeat Round 7 & 8.
Round 16: *[hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc] in next st, sc 3* repeat around. (48)
Firmly stuff stem. F.O.Leave long tail sew to top of pumpkin. Weave in ends.
Straight Stem:

With color A and H (5.0mm) hook,

For Both Pumpkins, add flowers (optional):
After adding them stem, glue fabric flowers around stem edge. For curved stem, I glued the flowers on the side away from the curve.
