“Santa Baby” Mug Cozy – Crochet Pattern

"Santa Baby" Mug Cozy
It may be a little late in the season, but I couldn’t help but think my “Santa Baby” earwarmer would look great as Mug cozy, as well. So despite being out of the Christmas season, I wrote up a pattern for a mug cozy. If you have made my “Santa Baby” earwarmer, much of this pattern will seem very familiar to you. Enjoy!

"Santa Baby" Mug CozyMaterials:
– ⅛ ball of worsted weight yarn in red. (I used Lionbrand Vanna’s Choice in Cranberry)
– small amount of worsted weight yarn in black. (I used Lionbrand Vanna’s Choice in Black)
– small amount of worsted weight yarn in yellow/gold. (I used Lionbrand Vanna’s Choice in Mustard)
– small amount of bulky, fluffy weight yarn in white. (I used Bernat Pipsqueak in Whitey White)
– Size H (5.0mm) Crochet Hook
– Size J (6.0mm) Crochet Hook
– 1″ button

Abbreviations:
ch = Chain
sp(s) = space(s)
st(s) = stitch(es)
sl st = Slip Stitch
sk = Skip

sc = Single Crochet
sc2tog = Single Crochet 2 Together
hdc = Half Double Crochet
hdc dec = Half Double Crochet Decrease
dc = Double Crochet
blo = Back Loop Only
RS = Right Side
WS = Wrong Side
FO = Finish Off

Special Stitches:
DSC_8612_ps_LDC_YouTubeLogoLdc – Long Double Crochet Linen Stitch: Work a double crochet (dc) in the st indicated one row below the previous row worked. This stitch will be worked around the previous row worked. (Also see Extended Moss Stitch)

Cozy:
With Red and H (5.0mm) hook, ch 7
Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 2: 2 hdc in first st, hdc 4, 2 hdc in last st, ch 1, turn. (8)
Row 3: hdc in first st, hdc 6, 2 hdc in last st, ch 1, turn. (10)
Row 4: 2 hdc in first st, hdc 8, 2 hdc in last st, ch 1, turn. (12)
Row 5: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (12)
Row 6: ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), sk st, dc in next st, *ch 1, sk next st, dc* repeat 4 times, dc in last st, ch 1, turn. (12)
Row 7-30: hdc, *ch 1, sk next st, Ldc in sk st below the next ch sp* repeat 5 times, hdc in last st, ch 1, turn. (12)
Row 31: sc 2, *Ldc in sk st below the next ch sp, sc in next st* repeat  5 times, ch 1, turn. (12)
Row 32: hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (12)
Row 33: hdc dec, hdc 8, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (10)
Row 34: hdc dec, hdc 6, hdc dec, ch 1, turn. (8)
Row 35: hdc dec, hdc 4, hdc dec. F.O. (6)

Belt Buckle

Buckle will have two holes for the belt to go through. The middle section will go behind the belt and each side will be in the front.

Buckle:
With Gold and H (5.0mm) hook, ch 7
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across,ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 2: sc, ch 4, sk 4 sts, sc in last st, ch 1, turn. (2 sc, ch 4)
Row 3: sc in each st and ch across, ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 4: sc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 5: sc, ch 4, sk 4 sts, sc in last st, ch 1, turn. (2 sc, ch 4)
Row 6: sc in each st and ch across, ch 1, do not turn. (6)
Finishing Row: sc 6 along row side of buckle, sl st in next 6 sc, sc 6 along row side of buckle, sl st in next 6 sc. FO.
Optional: Leave long tail for tacking down buckle.

Belt:
With black and H (5.0mm) hook, ch 5
Row 1: hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (4)
Row 2: 2 hdc in first st, hdc in next 2, 2 hdc in last st, ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 3-4: hdc in each st, ch 1, turn. (6)
Row 5: Join belt to main cozy in front loop of RS (back loop when holding WS of belt to WS of main cozy to join) on beginning ch of main cozy, sc in each st working through both loops of hdc on belt and front loop on main cozy, ch 1, turn. (6)

Front Loop of Right Side

Crochet through sc on belt and front loop (back loop when belt WS and cozy WS are held together) of RS of cozy.

Row 6: sc dec, sc in next 2, sc dec, ch 1, turn. (4)
Row 7-55: sc in each st, ch 1, turn. (4)
Row 56: 2 sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1, turn. (6)
Add belt buckle to belt now. Weave belt through loops created in buckle.
Row 57: Join belt to main cozy in front loop of RS on end sts of main cozy, sc in each st working through both loops of sc on belt and front loop on main cozy, ch 1, turn. (6)
58-59: hdc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (6)
Next row will create the loop.
Row 60: hdc in next 2 sts, ch 2, sk 2 sts, hdc in last 2 sts, ch 1, turn. (4 sc, ch 2)
Row 61: hdc in each st and ch across, turn. (6)
Row 62: hdc dec, hdc 2, hdc dec. F.O. (4)


Trim:
With white and J (6.0mm) hook, evenly sc around main cozy, sc in back loop on edges where belt was joined. FO. Weave in ends.

Tack down buckle if desired. Sew on button to beginning end of belt. Enjoy!
